No, public displays of affection (PDA) like kissing or passionate hugging are generally not culturally acceptable in Sri Lanka. Modesty is strongly valued, and too much PDA can bring negative attention or offend people who live there.

While holding hands is usually fine for married or established couples in places with lots of tourists and in more modern parts of Colombo, you still want to keep your public conduct conservative. This is extra important near religious sites, temples, and in rural villages, where overt affection is viewed as highly disrespectful and also not culturally fitting.
