What is the best time to visit Sri Lanka for tea plantations?

Visiting Sri Lanka’s central tea country works best from January to April. This stretch of the year often brings blue skies, cooler air and good hiking conditions through the estates.

Tea picking does not stop at any point in the year. Still, the dry season makes it easier to walk in the hills without constant rain. Sri Lanka also has two main weather patterns, so the best tea months change depending on where you are:

• For the western side, including areas like Dimbula and Nuwara Eliya, the top plucking window is usually between December and March. Conditions are cooler and drier then.
• If you plan to visit the eastern Uva Province instead, the strongest harvest period is often July to September.
