The Sacred City
Route: City TourStart the day with the morning “Thevava” (Ceremony) at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Visit the International Buddhist Museum behind the temple. In the evening, walk around the Kandy Lake and witness a Cultural Dance Show, but with a special “Backstage Access” to meet the drummers (if available). Overnight in Kandy.
The Forbidden Forest
Route: Udawatta Kele ➔ Garrison CemeteryTrek through Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, the royal forest reserve located right behind the Temple of the Tooth. Yes, it is a protected sanctuary with ticket counters. However, there are monkeys, so it is best not to carry food openly in your hands.
What is the weather like?
Kandy is generally pleasant (20°C – 28°C). Knuckles can be cooler and windier. It rains often in the afternoons, so carrying an umbrella is recommended.
